We recommend installing floor insulation with all our heating systems to further increase the efficiency of the heating system.
Without floor insulation, a great part of the heat created by the underfloor heating is lost downwards into the concrete slab. Your home will warm up faster while reducing your energy consumption.

The Floor Build-Up
The under-tile floor heating element is installed on top of insulation boards or insulated screed (5 – 10mm floor insulation board) and secured with adhesive fiberglass mesh.
A protective screed is then applied and the floor is subsequently tiled.
Some form of insulation must be installed either on top of the builder’s screed or by using an insulating screed.
Insulation decreases the downward heat flow into the concrete slab, thereby improving the response time and efficiency of your under-tile heating system.
Floor Heating Thermostats
Thermostats are an important part of your Speedheat electric floor heating system. The thermostat is jointly responsible for the improvement of your comfort of living, and the reduction in energy consumption. With Speedheat every room can independently be controlled with a programmable thermostat.
A room thermostat works by sensing the air temperature – switching on heating when the air temperature falls below the thermostat setting, and switching it off once this set temperature has been reached.
Most people are comfortable with a room temperature of 20 – 22ºC. We recommend that you test to see what temperature is most comfortable for you. Because floor heating is mainly radiant heat, comfort levels are reached at lower temperatures than with air heating.
The SpeedHeat Element
The Speedheat underfloor heating element is designed for durability and safety.
Its discreet design includes internal and external insulating sheaths that withstand heat and high voltage.
The fluoropolymer insulation is fully waterproof and corrosion-resistant. All Speedheat heating elements have a full earth screen for electrical safety as per IEC standards.
Furthermore, our patented element has won the SABS award for outstanding engineering design.
